At the baby shower for her little sister, 12-year-old Chaunell Roberson couldn’t stop smiling.  When her baby sister was born on April 1st, 2006 at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona, just outside Phoenix, Chaunell was even happier.

 

No one had any idea that seven months later, in the evening of November 4, 2006,  Chaunell would be lying intubated in the same hospital, in a coma, having just had a stroke.

 

Or that, despite thousands of pages of medical records, the doctors who were caring for Chaunell would accuse her mother of fabricating her daughter’s illness in order to draw attention to herself.
