The two writers of this opinion piece claiming the show was “sensationalized” are intentionally misrepresenting the facts OR they lack real world experience and informed insight. Sadly, anyone who has ever been involved in these cases knows that false accusations are the norm — not an aberration. Moreover, once a child abuse pediatrician makes a knee jerk accusation of abuse, it’s game over. The entire “investigation” and legal process becomes about making the CAP right and the parent wrong. Pretending there are no problems does a disservice to the public, the court system, and to hospitals across the country where parents are now afraid to take their injured and sick children due to fear of false accusations. THAT is the reality, not the picture the authors paint. And until the profession begins to self-correct, experts will continue to fight back and bring truth to light. Thank you, NBC, for HUBRIS, a spot on portrayal of what parents are up against.
