Try as I might, supporting the Infectious Disease, Neurology, and Rheumatology academies is not an option. As a block, they have actively opposed #PANDAS and #PANS for more than 20 years. On February 15, 2022, JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) published their Clinical Guidelines on Lyme Disease. In the Discussion it states, “In many ways, the current guideline is similar to the previous IDSA guideline released in 2006.” In short, nothing has changed for them over the past 16 years? Think about what has changed in your own life over the past 16 years. Is there anyone among us who could say its all similar to the way it was 16 years ago? It’s honestly an embarrassing and bizarre statement for them to make. So, let me clarify what hasn’t changed—the stubborn resistance of Infectious Disease, Neurology, and Rheumatology to embrace change—along with their absolute failure to put #lymedisease patients before their own egos.
